Clinical Communication: It’s Crucial
Ended Nov 2, 2024
Full course description
This course will consist of one hour of pre-recorded asynchronous content followed by a one-hour synchronous session. Both the asynchronous and synchronous portions need to be completed in their entirety to receive CEUs. Synchronous sessions will be offered:
Tuesday, October 8th, 7:00pm – 8:00pm Central time
Thursday, October 24th, 6:30pm – 7:30pm Central time
You only need to attend one of the synchronous sessions.
During the asynchronous portion participants will learn about the common elements of “crucial conversations” including high stakes, strong emotions, and differing opinions. Strategies from healthcare communications research for approaching each of these elements will be discussed. An overall model for navigating potentially challenging clinical conversations will be presented, with an emphasis on techniques for feedback-based conversations. The one-hour synchronous portion will consist of facilitated discussion of common crucial conversations between clinical instructors (CIs) and doctor of physical therapy (DPT) and physical therapist assistant (PTA) students. Participants will have an opportunity to submit questions before and during the presentation.
